while challenging humanity and seeking redemption."

I was 23 years of age and my husband was in the U.S. Air Force. I was given the horrific
news that his battleship was sunk off the coast of Italy.This was devastating for me and
my thirteen month old daughter. The world was in great turmoil. Television had not arrived
yet and we were not getting news as we receive it today. News of atrocities and terrible
events were slowly traveling across the seas and I was deeply torn.Images that we have
seen of the concentration camps, the faces of children lost, and adults without hope had
been deeply embedded in my mind. This piece reflects my emotions .

Remember my friends: We are the phoenix who has risen
out of the ashes of our ancestors. We are the hope of six million Jews.
